Lonk breed record smashed at Clitheroe

A new breed record of 10,000gns was set at the Farmers Guardian-supported Lonk Sheep Breeders Association show and sale at Clitheroe

ÌýA shearling ram,Ìýfrom K. and S. Kempson, Waterfoot,Ìýthat won second prize was the record-breaker, which sold to S.D. Driver, Glossop.

The pre-sale show champion, a shearling from B. and E. Thorpe, Cow Ark, was knocked down for 7,000gns to S. and P. Scrivin, Elslack.

Making 6,500gns was a shearling ram from T. Whitwell and Son, Pendleton, which went to R.S. Howard, Guide, with another ram from the same home making 5,000gns to Messrs Kempson.

Aged rams topped at 3,500gns for another second-prize winner from Messrs Kempson, which sold to C. Mitchell, Holmfirth.

Leading the ram lambs at 1,300gns was A.D. Morton, Waterfoot, selling to T.W. Pickard, Blackburn.

Females topped at £650 for a shearling ewe from Messrs Driver. Champion female was a shearling ewe consigned by S.E. Field, Burnley, which sold to S. and C. Riley, Rossendale.

Averages - aged rams, £563.06 (+£122.36 on 2024); shearling rams, £1,059.22 (+£45.78); ram lambs, £787.50 (+£479.50); ewes, £164.29; gimmer shearlings, £268.93 (+£78.93); gimmer lambs, £143.20 (+£23.20).
