Huge turnout for Feizor sale
MORE than 30 females sold for £5,000 or above with a top price of 12,000gns at the Booth family's on-farm sale of their Feizor herd from the Yorkshire-Lancashire border.
The sale was combined with Holstein UK's open day, traditionally hosted at the previous year's winner of the Premier Herd competition.
Leading the entry was Feizor Fuel Lasenza 2, a VG89-rated second-calver due again in October. It traces back to an embryo bought from the Belfast herd in Canada, and was knocked down to Messrs Coulthurst, Goosnargh.
The calved heifer Feizor Arrow D Dandy VG87 sold to the Jackson family, Dumfries, for 11,000gns. Its maternal line includes many high-yielders.
Another second-calver from the Lasenza family, Feizor Sidekick D Lasenza, sold to an undisclosed Shropshire buyer for 11,500gns.
The Jones family, Cornwall, paid 9,500gns for Feizor Lambda D Blexy 2 VG86, which is due with its second shortly and recorded 11,370kg in its first lactation.
The Awdes from Penrith paid 9,500gns and 8,000gns for Feizor Jacoby D Andalusia EX95-2 due with its fifth calf and Feizor Sidekick U Delia EX94-3 due with its sixth, respectively.
James McNeil, Stranraer, paid 9,200gns for Feizor Haniko D Neoma 2 VG86, while the Baltier Farming Co, Newton Stewart, bought Feizor Arrow S Delia EX91 for 9,000gns.
Castle Douglas-based East Logan paid 8,000gns for Feizro Doc C Melody VG89, a second-calver.
Calves peaked at 8,000gns when Firth Farming, Dumfries, paid that for Feizor Hampshire G Joy, a Septmber-born daughter of a 16,000gns Lighthouse cow.
Averages – 103 cows and calved heifers, £4,823.70; 5 heifer calves, £4,165; 2 bull calves, £1,890; 110 head, £4,721.18; 9 embryos, £910.

Nala sets Bentham sheep dog record
A new centre record for a sheepdog was set at Bentham when Pen-y-Borough Nala went under the hammer at 10,000gns.
Consigned by Shaun Richard, Eldroth, the smooth-coated four-year-old is a red and white daughter of A. Procter's Jed, and out of Shaun's own Nan. An experienced work bitch, it caught the eye of Brighton-based shepherd, Chris Allen.
Hitting 4,000gns was Moss, a rising three-year-old son of Clwyd Bob from Non Prys, Conwy, which qualified for the 2025 North Wales Nursery final.
Rising two-year-old Maggie from Robin Bell, Hawick, realised 3,000gns.Ìý
Pups peaked at 1,000gns for nine-month-old Meg, a slate blue bitch from John Longden, High Peak.

Sydenham signs off in style
BREEDING cattle peaked at £8,400 at Robert and Becca Rennie's online dispersal sale of commercial cattle from their Sydenham herd, Kelso.
Leading the way when sold to an undisclosed buyer was a Limousin cross heifer, Tilly, with its March-born heifer calf at foot.
Messrs Allan, Berwick-upon-Tweed, paid £8,000 for Sicillia, a 2022-born Limousin cross cow with its March-born heifer calf, while Messrs Campbell, Cairndow, paid £7,200 for nine-year-old Mardy, a British Blue cross.
Gates Farming, Oakham, paid £6,400 twice and £6,200 for Obara, Tina and Rhua, Limousin crosses with heifer calves.Ìý
Averages – 15 cows with calves, £5,613.33; 4 heifers with calves, £6,550; 4 bulling heifers, £3,600; 1 surrogate cow with calf, £4,000; 3 pigs, £143.30.

Top of £3,200 twice at Borderway dairy sale
Trade topped at £3,200 on two occasions. Firstly for Becklees Hanley Sheila from Richard Carlile, Longtown. Bred from an EX dam, it sold to Messrs Jackson and Partners, Dumfries.
The heifer Parkend Mecca Tammy, from the Weatherup family, Fife, also made £3,200 when sold to Messrs Waddell, Lanarkshire.
Messrs Jackson paid a further £2,900 twice – first for Errolston Kitami S Fiasco, a fresh second-calver from B. and V. Davidson, Gretna, and again for Kirtlebank Capital Bluebell VG87, another second-calver from W. Moffat and Co, Gretna.
A total of 11 females, including six in-calf heifers, made £2,800, and Holstein bulling heifers topped at £1,550 with ProCross yearling heifers to £1,200 several times.

Winning heifer leads Gisburn dairy
IT was the first-prize pedigree heifer that sold for the top price of £3,750 at Gisburn's dairy sale.
This was Aireburn Raiton Echo from G.B. Moorhouse, Skipton, which sold producing 33kg daily. The same herd received £3,550 for Aireburn Pursuit Sarah.
The second-prize pedigree heifer, Abbeyhouse Zoom Vicky, from Jennings Farms, Ripon, realised £3,400.Ìý
The winning non-pedigree heifer from J. and B. Rowland, Haighton, sold for £3,280, with another from the same home at £2,980.
J.A. Lawn, Cullingworth, also sold a non-pedigree heifer at £2,980.
Pedigree cows reached £2,950 twice. Firstly, for a 39kg Stantons Applicable daughter from D. and J. Herd, Hebden, and again for a 41kg Delta Abundant from M. Bell and Son, Askrigg.

Black and White sale hits £6,400
A TEXEL ewe lamb from Mark Priestley's Seaforde flock, Co Down, led the Second Edition Black and White online sale of Texels and Suffolks.
Selling for £6,400 to Messrs McConville, Newry, the February-born entry is by the 2025 sire of the year, Okehall Hammerhead, and out of the 2025 Balmoral Show champion, an Auldhouseburn Gazza daughter.
The Suffolk entry peaked at £5,600 when Messrs Kahoe, Co Wexford, paid that for Mallinhead Cannonball, Mr Priestley's two-shear stock ram by Crewlands Dancing Brave. It has already sired offspring to 9,000gns.
At £5,200 was a Limestone gimmer by Benedyglen Masterpiece, also from Mr Priestley, which sold to Messrs Hastins, Co Mayo. Its grand-dam has bred rams to 48,000gns.
Selling to Messrs Nives, Luxembourg, for £5,000 was a Limestone Suffolk ewe lamb by Limestone King of Diamonds.
Back to the Texels and Messrs Branagan, Co Down, paid £4,000 for the dearest from Robert Cockburn, Perthshire, in the shape of a Knap ewe lamb by Harestone Incredible Hulk.
Embryos reached £1,400 each for a pair of Texel embryos by Claybury Dunkirk and out of a Knap Daisy Duke ewe whose sons have reached 170,000gns.

New centre record for breeding cattle at Bentham
COWS and calves met a strong demand at Bentham, where the previous record of £5,000 was surpassed four times.
Topping the entry at £5,800 was a second-calved British Blue cross cow with Blue bull calf from B.S. and C.M. Ashworth, Woodplumpton, which had earlier stood first in the cow class.
Next, at £5,500, was a Limousin heifer from Adam Carr, Bentham, who sold another at £5,100, while the first-prize continental heifer from Anthony Thompson, Foulridge, made £5,400.
Tom Rogerson, Chipping, sold two Blue second-calvers for £5,000 apiece.
Bulling heifers reached £3,020 for Limousins from M.J. Lohr-Crawford, Selside, with Beef Shorthorns to £2,350 from Stuart Currie, Rathmell, who sold an in-calf Shorthorn cow for £2,800.
Bulls sold to £4,800 for a Limousin from Terry Priestley and Mya Easterby, Mewith.

Dairy dispersal reaches 2,450gns three times
A STRONG, consistent trade was seen throughout the dispersal of the Rolfe family's Beaulieu-based autumn-calving dairy herd held at Sedgemoor.
The herd consisted of Friesians, Montbeliardes and pedigree Ayrshire females, which were mostly in their third lactation and due their fourth.
The three breeds shared the top price of 2,450gns, including a Lakemead Jingle Friesian daughter due its fourth to Montbeliarde sexed semen. Matching that was the Ayrshire, Middle Chrissie Yup, due its fourth in October, and a Montbeliarde cross heifer due to an Angus.
At 2,400gns was the dry Ayrshire cow, Middle Crummie MH, due its fifth in July, with that matched by a Friesian cross due its fourth, as well as Middle Elkin Bandit due its second and a Montbeliarde cross also due its second.
Volume buyers from across the south west took the opportunity to purchase females which averaged £2,125.42 (excluding faults).
