Champion bull makes 15,000gns at Ballymena

Three Limousin bulls achieved five-figure prices, and 30 sold to new homes, resulting in a 97% clearance and overall average of £6,503, a rise of £1,690 on last year’s sale at Ballymena

Ballyrobin Volvo, 15,000gns

Selling for the top price of 15,000gns was the intermediate and supreme champion, Ballyrobin Volvo, from Joan Gilliland and Kim Montgomery, Antrim. This 21-month-old by Ampertaine Elgin is out of the Lowerffrydd Empire daughter Ballyrobin Obsession, a full sister to the 20,000gns Ballyrobin Joop. Carrying copies of the F94L and Q204X myostatin genes, Volvo sold to Eddie and Ben Lynch, Ernevalley herd, Loughduff.

Mossbrook Vector, 12,000gns

Second in the trade stakes at 12,000gns, when sold to Cameron Williamson, Kilrea, was the reserve champion Mossbrook Vector, from Derek and David Campbell, Magherafelt. Bred from the Sympa daughter Mossbrook Rosie, Vector is by Carrowreagh Navigator and also carries the F94L and Q204X genes.

Michael McKeefry, Garvagh, sold Eniver Vance for 10,000gns to B. Blaney, Cushedall. It is by Ampertaine Majestic and out of the Ampertaine Bermuda-sired Eniver Orla.

Four bulls made 7,500gns apiece. First was Clydevalley Victory, a Claddagh McCabe son from Robert Clyde, Templepatrick, which sold to Eugene McEntee, Crossmaglen.

C. and F. McAuley, Toomebridge, sold their Carmorn Tigerroll-sired Carmorn Vegas to Brian and Neil Hunter, Ballyclare.

Patrick McAnulty, Ballyward, secured the Goldies Statesmanson, Archies Valhalla, from Messrs McKenna, Bellaghy.

The last to make 7,500gns was Newhillfarm Vidal, a Lynderg Rembrandt son from M. and J. McPolin, Newry, which sold to Glenn Whyte, Glenanne.

A small entry of pedigree heifers peaked at 3,250gns for the Telfurs Munster daughter Bobbys Vixie, from Kieran Magee, Hilltown.

The Springtime Spectacular show and sale of commercial beef calves peaked at 9,000gns for the reserve champion, a 405kg black heifer by Ballyrobin Rockstar from Fergal Gormley.

The champion, a 402kg Trueman Idol daughter from the Magee family, sold for 8,500gns.
