Blues top at 5,600gns at Skipton

The sale of British Blues at Skipton included the production saleÌýfrom the Greystone pedigree herd from Alan and Graham Coates, Stainforth.

It topped at 5,600gns forÌýGreystone Speedy, a May 2022-born maiden heifer by Baigneur De Tohogne, which went to F. and M.P. Allinson, Baldersdale.

Another Baigneur daughter, April 2021-born Greystone Rita, in-calf to Auchenlay Ranger, made 5,000gns to Tim and Lisa Metcalfe, Bradford.

Making 4,900gns was Greystone Roxy, a December 2021-born daughter of Goodhills Emperor, which joined John Cardwell, Doncaster.

April 2022-born Greystone Sofia, the last daughter of Almeley Ginola, made 4,000gns to Henley Livestock, Tadcaster.

Mark and Elaine Hartley, Toughlee, saw their maiden heifer, Pendle Star by Greystone Noveltee, sell for 3,800gns to Mr Cardwell.

The Hartleys also had the top priced bull at 4,200gns. This was 2021-born Pendle Rascal by Noveltee, which sold to F.W. Robinson and Son, Woodhall Spa.

The Embrooke herd of Robert Mawer and Emma Benge, Lincolnshire, led the Aberdeen-Angus trade at 3,300gns and 2,200gns.

The sale topper was the April 2022-born maiden heifer, Embrooke Eyrie Y133 by Rawburn Jumbo Eric, which sold the Holgate family, Rathmell, who also paid 2,200gns for the champion; January 2021-born Embrooke Electra X105, by the same sire.

T.S. and P.A. Knox, Bedale, sold a cow in-calf to Millclose Erice for 1,600gns to Les Driver, Oakenshaw.

Suckled calves to £5,000 at Middleton in Teesdale

At the sale of 500 mainly six- to seven-month-old suckled calves at Middleton-in-Teesdale, the judge, Harry Emslie, Peterhead, awarded the championship to the winning British Blue heifer by Oaktree Gowrey, from J.C. and J. White, Lunedale, which he went on to buy for £5,000.
He also paid the top steer price of £1,700 for the reserve champion, a British Blue cross steer from D.J. Mallon, Pallet Crag.
The first prize pen of three steers were from Messrs White and sold for £1,270, with the winning pen of heifers from Ian Raine, Sunnybrae, making £1,020/head.
Messrs Whitle sold a British Blue cross heifer for £2,400 to James Alexander, Northern Ireland, who also paid £1,420 for a May-born Limousin heifer from Messrs Iceton, High Birch. Messrs Mallon sold a Limousin heifer for £1,500 to M. and B. Coulthard, Bridge End.

Store cattle to £1,880 at Leyburn

The East Wittion sale of store cattle at Leyburn topped at £1,880 for the winning British Blue steer from Rob and Jack Fawcett, Woodhall, which sold to David Barker, Scarborough.
The championship went to Bainbridge Bros, Marrick, with a British Blue heifer which made £1,680 to Ian and David Brown, Richmond. The reserve champion, a Limousin heifer from the same home, made £1,620 to Barry Dunkley, Masham.

Rearing calves sold to £570 for a two-month-old British Blue bull from John Simpson and family, Leyburn.

A seven-week-old Limousin bull from the Cloughton family, Hawes, made £500. Stephen Sowray, Bishop Thornton, sold a month-old Charolais bull at £500 and a Charolais heifer for £400. David and Sarah Green, Northallerton, sold Angus steer calves to £490. Friesian bulls topped at £280 for the Cloughton family.

Suckled calves in demand at Darlington

The Stones family, Marrick, claimed both champion and reserve at the show and sale of suckled calves at Darlington.

The top spot went to the winning steer, a Limousin by Haltcliffe Favori, which made £1,380 to N.C. Wilson, Ripon - topping the suckled calf section.
In reserve was the winning heifer by the same sire, which sold to T.N. Callender, Whinney Hill, for £1,220.

A run of seven- to eight-month-old Limousins from A. and R. Thompson, Moorsholm, topped at £1,300 for steers and £1,260 for heifers.

E. Scott and Sons, Darlington, claimed a clean sweep of the bull class with home-bred March- and April-born Limousin calves. The winner sold for £1,100 to L.R. Welsh and Co, Spennymoor. Second and third place went to S. Beachell, Driffield, for £1,210 apiece.

Young bulls averaged £1,062; up £159 and topping at £1,540 for a 15-month-old Aberdeen-Angus from S. Jackson, Tuthill, who sold eight to an average of £1,380.

At £1,535 was the best of a run of seven- to eight-month-old Limousin and British Blue bulls from Garrowby 51AVÊÓƵEstate, Bugthorpe, whose 15 calves averaged £1,387.

A trio of 20-month-old Aberdeen-Angus from B. and B. Kitching and Son, Great Stainton, sold at £1,590/head, and they also had top heifers at £1,560.ÌýÌý

Salers at Welshpool

The sale of Salers at Welshpool topped at 3,000gns for the third prize bull, February 2022-born Genton Shere Khan by Murphy and out of the imported cow Opale, from Bertie Facon, Banbury. The buyers were A.D. and P.M. Rogers, Haverfordwest.
Commercial females sold to £2,450 for an in-calf heifer from Messrs Facon, which sold to Andrew Powell, Knighton, with another in-calf heifer from the same home making £1,900 to D. Andrew, Meifod.
Pedigree production females peaked at 1,900gns twice for Messrs Genton with Gentons Sienna and Gentons Stella; both Murphy-sired daughters which had been running with homozygous polled bull Gentons Sargent and were bought by R. Evans and Son, Shropshire.ÌýÌý

The Seawell production draft from P.M. and S.M. Donger, Towcester, reached 1,500gns for Inka-sired, May 2021-born Seawell Saphir, which went to Gwawr Griffiths for her Parys herd, Anglesey.

Strong calf and stirk trade at Gisburn

The entry of more than 220 calves at Gisburn peaked at £542 for A. Bretherton and Son, Preston, with two-month-old British Blue bulls and another six-week-old at £500. J. Shuttleworth and Son, Rylstone, sold a one-month, four-day-old Charolais bull for £485.

Heifers from the same home were up to £412. Blues from Rainhall Farm, Barnoldswick, and D.Tattersall, Crawshawbooth, both achieved £460, while D.M. and L.M. Airey, Preston, sold a pair of Blue heifers at £475/head.
A six-week-old Limousin bull from Mr Tattersall made £422, and young Limousin heifers topped at £330 for R. Wright and family, Airton. Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to £370 to level at £243, and Hereford bulls sold to £445 to average at £267. Black and white bulls topped at £155, averaging £70.

A suckler-bred Parthenaise heifer from B. and A. Crane, Tockholes, led the stirk trade at £920. R. Falshaw, Gisburn, sold dairy-bred Blue bullocks to £910, while native breeds peaked at £880 for Angus steers from B. Mellin, Bracewell. Angus heifers sold to £760.

The 53 bulling heifers topped at 2,000gns three times, all selling to Messrs Dodds, to average £1,608.60, up £427.35 on the year.

Cows topped at 2,600gns for the second calver Luing Bardrishaig Z45, which sold, back in-calf to Luing Axle, to Messrs Jardine, Dumfries.

The 22 cows averaged £1,745.10ÌýÌýup £727.65 on the year.

ÌýBreeding cattle to £4,800 at Kirkby Stephen

Topping the sale of 458 head of breeding cattle at Kirkby Stephen at £4,800 was the winning outfit, a Limousin cross heifer with a Limousin heifer calf, from Messrs McAllister, Bonnybridge, which sold to Messrs Harrison, Barnard Castle. Other outfits from the same home sold for £4,000, £3,400 twice and £3,350.

Messrs Ousby, Newbiggin on Lune, sold a Limousin cross heifer with a Limousin heifer calf for £3,550.

Making £3,500 were both a Limousin cross heifer with a Limousin heifer calf from Messrs Elliot, Penrith, and a Limousin cross heifer calf wth a Limousin steer calf from Messrs Atkinson, Colby.

Topping the in-calf section at £4,100 was a Limousin cross heifer in-calf to the Limousin bull from Messrs Bradley, Settle, which was bought by Messrs Hill, Great Asby.

Messrs Bradley also sold Limousin cross in-calf heifers to £4,000 to Messrs Millar, Canonbie, the first prize in-calf heifer, a Limousin cross, for £3,800 and British Blue cross in-calf heifers to £3,400, £3,300, £3,250 and £3,200 twice, with their consignment of 24 averaging £3,135.24.

Messrs Dandie, Broxburn sold British Blue cross in-calf heifers to £3,400 and £3,350.

The second show and sale of suckled calves at Ruswarp topped at £2,500 for the reserve champion, a seven-month-old British Blue heifer from Glen Mortimer, Glaisdale, which sold to F.M. Shepherd, Pateley Bridge, with a British Blonde heifer from the same home making £2,000.
The champion, a 10-month-old Limousin steer from Tom Thompson, Lealholm, made £2,300 to Paul Blacker, Goole.
Bulls topped at £1,500 for a Limousin from P.M. and F.M. Hill, Ugthorpe. Ìý
