A new breed record of 70,000gns was set at the Farmers Guardian supported Beltex Premier show and sale at Carlisle.

Beltex breed record smashed at premier sale

The sale topper was Faughhill Landman, a shearling ram from Grant Maxwell, Melrose, which had been male champion at this year's Royal Highland Show. By Callacrag Hot Shot out of Faughhill Gannet, a Mortons Cheeky Boy daughter, it sold to Alfie Taylor, Lanark.

Next at 65, 000gns was pre-sale show male champion, Lakeview Lancelot by Logie Durno Jack Daniels out of Lakeview Flying Beauty consigned by Gary Beacom, Fivemiletown, Co Fermanagh, which was knocked down to Miller Farms, Inverurie.

From the same home, Lakeview Lord of the Ring, again by Jack Daniels, sold for 12,000gns to Messrs Boden, Stockport.

Making 23,000gns was McKnight's Legend, a son of Geffens Kurt Cobain from Ramsay McKnight, Newton Stewart, which sold to Wannops Farms, Morecombe.

Two shearling rams sold for 18,000gns apiece. First was Faughhill Loki by Callcrag Jesus ET from Messrs Maxwell which went home with Miller Farms.

The other at 18,000gns was Stonehills Let's Go, a Lakeview Doozer son consigned by Jackie Riby, Bridlington, which sold in a four-way split to Messrs Dodd, Lockerbie, Messrs Anderson, Dumfries, Messrs Aiken, Carlisle, and Messrs Roberts, Shrewsbury.

Lurg Limitless by Mellor Vale King Kong, which had been reserve champion at the Royal Highland Show, from Miller Farms, sold for 12,000gns to an undisclosed buyer.

Ram lambs

The winning ram lamb and reserve male champion, Lurg Magic Mike, also by King Kong and from Miller Farms topped the section at 18,000gns when selling to Paul Tippetts, Shifnal.

Next in the ram lambs at 15,000gns from the Buckle family, Kirkby Stephen, was Buckles Macbeth, a son of Lurg Lucifer. The buyer was Messrs Cartman, Skipton.

Richard Wood sold a son ofÌý Lurg Lennie from his Kingledores flock, Biggar, for 9,000gns to Aled Croucott, Crumlin, Gwent.

Leading the female trade at 10,000gns was the section champion, the shearling gimmer, Lurg Liberty by Mellor Vale King Kong out of Lurg Honour from Miller Farms which went to Faughhill Farming, Melrose.Ìý

Next at 7,000gns was Balquhain Looking Good by the same sire from Finn Christie, Inverurie, which was knocked down to Messrs Davies, Llanelli. Balquhain Linda by Faughhill Kealey from the same vendor made 5,000gns to Messrs Carroll, Kirriemuir.

Averages - aged rams, £2,450 (+£1,043 on 2025, 100% clearance); 391 shearling rams, £2,350.22 (+£436.46, 73.91% clearance); 65 ram lambs, £2,417.42 (-£786.24 74% clearance); 138 shearling gimmers, £1,154.62 (+£139.62, 91% clearance).
