Blue bull hits 10,000gns to top Skipton

A BRITISH Blue bull from Ken and Hazel Gamble, Easingwold, topped the spring pedigree beef day at Skipton when it sold for the top price of 10,000gns.

February 2024-born Linthorpe Uncle Bernard was by Homilton Jupiter and out of Stonebyres Rosetta, a Stonebyres Ninja daughter. It claimed the male and reserve overall championship at the pre-sale show before selling to G. and A. Williams, Powys.

The Cromwell Fendt-sired Springfield Ulysses out of Springfield Izzie, from Alan and Deirdre Wilkinson, Garstang, sold to H.R. Hayton and Son, Appleby, for 8,500gns.Ìý

Aberdeen-Angus sold to 4,400gns for 16-month-old Gratton Equity from Richard Gratton, Kirby Misperton. The Rawburn Loaded son is out of the McCornick Pathfinder-sired Yearsley Eyrie, and sold to Messrs Mallinson, Mount Tabor.

At 4,000gns when sold to R.W. and M. Walker, Laycock, was the Shadwell Rock and Roll son, Airedale Evensteven, from J.D. and J.A. Holgate, Rathmell.

A 2022-born cow,Ìý Bradhill Rothes Justine, from Steve and Jessica Swales, Cliviger, topped the Beef Shorthorns at 3,800gns when sold to P.J. and S. Miller, Claughton on Brock. Sired by Burnside Elite, is sold with its October-born Meonhill Firefox-sired heifer calf at foot.

At 3,500gns from the same home and selling to R.E. Benn, Holmrook, was Bradhill Lovely VG89, this time by Balgay Hidden Land and with a March-born bull calf by Stonehouse Timone.

South Devons hit 7,500gns

A BULL from M.A. Plain and A.F. Riches, Tewkesbury, topped the Midland South Devon Breeders Club show and sale at Worcester when it sold for 7,500gns.Ìý

The 26-month-old by Trewint Churchill is out of Foxhole Calla 2 and sold to A.J. and F.J. Claridge, Aylesbury.Ìý

Next best at 6,200gns when sold to D. Nixey, Tetsworth, was Broadwood Inspiration 2, a Sexton Senator son that stood male and overall champion at the pre-sale show for Julian White, Brampton Ash.Ìý

Clarendon Park Estate, Salisbury, paid 5,000gns for Broompark Gryffindor from R.J. Throssell and J.A.T. Warwick, Holsworthy.Ìý

Swansway Charlemagne Lucy 6, a recently served heifer from T.M. Paton and Son, Haversham, topped the female entry at 2,300gns when selling to I. Kendle, Foulsham.Ìý

Malones set breeding cattle record at Stirling

A HEIFER with calf at foot set a new centre record of £9,000 at United Auctions' Stirling centre.

The British Blue cross heifer from husband and wife duo, Craig and Katreen Malone, Fife, surpassed the previous £8,600 record set by the pair last October. One of 17 outfits selling to average £6,265, it sold with its heifer calf at foot by Tomschoice Lexicon.

Entries from John McAllister, Falkirk, reached £8,200 and £8,000 for Limousins with heifer calves with a similar outfit with bull calf from the same home making £7,600.

Other commercial breeding entries saw in-calf heifers reached £3,500 for a Simmental cross from Messrs Wardrop, Leven, with bulling heifers to £3,300 for a pure Simmental from Messrs MacAskill, Dunbar.

Champion heifer tops Market Drayton dairy sale

HEADING up the offering of dairy cattle at Market Drayton was the champion, a pedigree heifer,Ìý Folemill Candy Abbess 3, from Mike Whitehurst, Market Drayton, which realised £3,500.

Next best at £3,250 was Bidlea Pride Tagasling 3, a pedigree heifer from Ray Brown and Partners, Holmes Chapel, who also sold the first prize pedigree cow, a third calver, at £2,780.

T.M. and J.M. Bowes, Wettenhall, sold a second-calver, Jumar Retro Fiona, for £2,800.

Entries from R. and J. Madders, Adbaston, topped the commercial classes at £3,050 for a heifer and £2,780 for a fourth-calver.

Buoyant Ladies Day trade at Darlington

A PEDIGREE three-crop Blue Texel ewe with twins at foot from Mel Whitfield-Stout, South Terrace, made £800 to top the Ladies Day show and sale of breeding sheep at Darlington.

Ewes with lambs also reached £500/outfit for a Badgerface Texel from Winsbury 51AVÊÓÆµPartners, Leyburn, and again for a Beltex from Messrs Craig, Stanhope.

Messrs Craig also topped the hoggs with lambs trade at £380/outfit for a Suffolk, while Dutch Spotteds from L.O. Stephenson, Frosterley, made £375/outfit.

The entry of breeding cattle sold to £4,200 twice for a young Limousin cow with bull calf and British Blue heifer with heifer calf, all from M. and S. Gledhill, Hessay.

Messrs Gledhill sold another three at £4,000, matched by a 14-year-old Limousin cow with heifer calf from M.J. Marley, Northallerton.

Bulling heifers sold to £2,800 for a Limousin from A. Kitson and Son, Yarm.
