Blossom blooms at Shrewsbury
A YOUNG heifer named Pepperstock 1 Blossom C1144 sold for the top price of 10,000gns at the Hereford Cattle Society's show and sale at Shrewsbury.
The 13-month-old is sired by Spartan 1 Typhoon, while its dam is a previous Blossom by the home-bred Pepperstock 1 Rebellious from the team at Speirs Farms, Luton. It sold for the top price to the Welshpool-based Helens herd of S., H. and A. Smith.
Males reached 8,500gns for Fisher 1 Barney B585 from R.J. Hutchins, West Sussex. This 25-month-old son of Fisher 1 Prospect P464 is out of Fisher 1 Susan T515, a Fisher 1 Panther daughter. Barney sold to A. and P. Massey, Hollyvale Herefords, Bury.
Next at 6,200gns when sold to Messrs Goodwin and Powell, Rough Moor herd, Almeley, was the male and overall champion, Normanton 1 Crumbie from T.D. and W.T. Livesey, Leicester. Its pedigree features Cleland 1 Nelson on to Normanton 1 Fistulina 38 V479, a Panmure 1 Pudding daughter.
The Shaw family, Warwickshire, saw their Maxstoke 1 Sovereign-sired Thornysure 1 Chuckles sell to A.D. Richard, Celynen herd, Carmarthen, for 5,100gns.

Nun Cote Nook Northies top at Clitheroe
NORTH Country Cheviots from Keith Stones' Nun Cote Nook flock met the best of the trade at the in-lamb offering at Clitheroe.
Selling for the top price of 1,700gns was a shearling from the Richmond-based flock which was knocked down to Orlena Henderson, Crook, carrying a pair.
The Stones family's Cheviots also led the other sections with an aged ewe at 1,100gns to C. Braithwaite, Millom, as well as a ewe hogg at 1,000gns.
Derbyshire Gritstones peaked at 1,400gns when K. and S. Kempson, Waterfoot, sold a shearling to N. Pepper, Laneshawbridge.

A Gritstone ewe scanned with twins from J. and M. Redfearn, Stockport, sold to K. Gibson, Latham, for 950gns, while young Stanley Kempson sold a hogg to C. Sharrock, Ulverston, for 500gns
The Lonk entry hit 850gns for an aged ewe from Clive Mitchell, Holmfirth, which sold to Messrs Redfearn, while Messrs Kempson sold both a shearling and a hogg to 500gns.
A ewe from C. Kaye, Holmfirth, led the Whitefaced Woodland entry when sold to L. Bywaters, Holmfirth, for 420gns, while the other breeds peaked at 680gns for a Bluefaced Leicester hogg from R.T. Parker.

Middleton champion makes 拢5,000
A BRITISH Blue heifer from John White, Barnard Castle, stole the show at Middleton when the champion sold for highest price of 拢5,000 to听to Sean Marsh, Dover.
Following it all the way to stand reserve champion was a Blue heifer from David Mallon, Eggleston, which sold to the judge, Matt Morris, Leicestershire, for 拢3,200.
Messrs White also topped the bullock section with a Limousin cross at 拢2,550.
The sale averaged 拢1,956.38 with heifers up 拢262 on the year to average 拢2,032.59 while steers levelled at 拢1,893.50, a rise of 拢232.

Two-shear Swale ewe heads up Kirkby Stephen
IT was the champion that went on to top the show and sale of crowned Swaledale females at Kirkby Stephen.
That was a two-shear ewe from John Bland, Apperset, which sold to Messrs Sellars, Pickering, for 拢3,800.
The reserve, a gimmer shearling from Robbie Hallam, Settle, hit 拢3,500 when sold to the team at Burncroft Farm, Eggleston.

Messrs Pratt, Leyburn, sold a gimmer shearling to Messrs Robinson, Slaidburn, for 拢1,800.
Making 拢1,500 when sold to Messrs Hutchinson, Kirkby Stephen, was a three-shear ewe from D.J. Coats, Richmond.
Proceeds donated to the Papyrus Charity included 拢800 when Lewis Staley, Kirkby Stephen, sold a gimmer hogg to Laurie Blades, Hawes, as well as 拢450 for a shepherd's crooks donated by Graham Rennie which sold to Martin Wilson, Lunedale.

Opening sale of breeding sheep hits 拢340/outfit
FOUR outfits shared the top price of 拢340 per unit at the opening sale of breeding sheep at Skipton.
First up was Chris Hall, Whixley, who sold Texel ewes with twin Texel lambs followed by a Suffolk ewe with twin Texels from Jack Foster, Wigglesworth.
Messrs Carr and Moran, also Wigglesworth, also achieved that price 鈥� for Suffolk shearlings with twins and again for two-crop Charollais ewes with Charollais twins.
Singles sold to 拢285 for Texel shearlings with Texel lambs, with Mule ewes with singles hitting 拢230 from Nigel Pepper and granddaughter Edie, Laneshawbridge.

Header:听Leicesters lead at Bentham
TWO Bluefaced Leicesters sold for 拢3,000 apiece at the sale of in-lamb ewes at Bentham.
Hitting that mark was the first-prize ewe from Ashley Caton, Skipton, which sold carrying triplets N1 Asby Hall.
Mr Caton also welcomed 拢2,800 for the champion, a shearling carrying twins to V4 Shitlington.
The other at 拢3,000 was the winning hogg, a T16 Midlock daughter from David and James Lawson, Masongill.
Dalesbreds sold to 拢2,300 for the champion, a shearling carrying a single from John Kelsall, Cold Cotes.

Hitting 拢1,500 was shearling again scanned with a single, this time from J. Carr and J. Moran, Wigglesworth, with a two-crop ewe from Richard and Matthew Close, Skipton, making 拢1,000.
Crooklands-based Ian Grisedale sold Herdwicks to 拢300 twice for hoggs, with another from the same home selling to raise a total of 拢650 for Cancer Research.
