Hottbank Gold sets new Whitebred Shorthorn record

A new breed record was set at the Whitebred Shorthorn Association sale at Borderway when John Pattinson's Hottbank Gold was knocked down for 8,000gns

The 20-month-old Ottercops Ptolemy son from Bardon Mill, Hexham, is out of the Sewingshields Carlos-sired Hottbank Lucy 28 and sold for that record price to Messrs Gibson, Grisedale, Sedburgh.

Two sold for 3,800gns including the very next lot, Netherby Duke from the Netherby Hall team, Longtown, Carlisle. Selling to Braesgill, Talmine, Lairg, it is by Longley Highlight and out of Ottercops Snowdrop 6, an Ottercops Sampson daughter.

Matching that 3,800gns was the dearest from R. and D. Telford's dispersal from Roadhead, Carlisle. Selling to Messrs Pattinson's Hottbank herd was Hole-Of-Lyne Laura, a six-year-old Blackburn Adam daughter bred from the Blackburn Bingo-sired Hole-Of-Lyne Shona 5.

Messrs Jones, Uchaf, Llanbryhmair, Powys, paid 3,400gns for M.G. and J. Taylor's in-calf heifer named Glentyne Marty from Corsock, Castle Douglas. Due in January to Glentyne Grafter, it is by Glentyne Grafter.

Also at 3,400gns was Hole-Of-Lyne Alex, Messrs Telfords' Hole-Of-Lyne Joe son that sold to Messrs Kyle, Spout Bank, Brampton.

Five-year-old Hole-Of-Lyne Fiona, another Blackburn Adam daughter, sold to Messrs Douglas, Watten, Wick, for 2,800gns.

Averages:Ìý4 bulls, £4,410; 4 cows with calves, £3,123.75; 7 heifers, £2,212.50.
