  1. Test soil in autumn for full spread of macro and micro nutrients, carbon exchange capacity, pH, bulk density, ratio of carbon to nitrogen, organic matter and soil biology
  2. Do leaf tissue analysis on the crops and pastures from the same field with full range of macro and micro nutrients – where are discrepancies or patterns with the soil and plant samples?Ìý
  3. Dig holes for visual assessment – note aggregation, rooting depth, colour profile, smell profile, indicators of biological activity, rhizosheaths and earthworms. Above ground look at infiltration rates, brix, slake test and bare ground percentage
