TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham, best known for BBC programmes including Springwatch and Autumnwatch, has taken aim at Jeremy Clarkson after an appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox.

During the programme, the celebrities were shown an episode of Clarkson's 51AVÊÓƵand Mr Packham criticised the view it presented of farming.

He said: "Most farms are horrible monocultures, which have been sprayed with deadly chemicals time and time again. The ground pumped full of fertiliser, and loads of the animals are indoors in crates, being crushed and kept in the dark.

"That is an idealistic view of a farm, and it puts the wrong idea in people's minds. And that is only the titles."

Mr Clarkson hit back in his column in The Sun, stating Mr Packham was ‘endlessly angry' and had ‘erupted in blind fury about the Winnie the Pooh-ish opening credits to my farming programme'.

He suggested the comments did not play well ‘because it is bks'.

On Instagram, Mr Packham has now posted asking Mr Clarkson if it is ‘really all happy smiley down on the farm'.

He shared an image which made statements about UK farming including claims on greenhouse gases, glyphosate use and the conditions of animals including pigs and poultry on farm.

Earlier this year, Mr Packham told Farmers Guardian he would like to extend the hand of friendship to farmers, believing himself to be one of the industry's biggest champions.
