Heading out: Sir Keir Starmer has resigned as PM

In July 2024, Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party stormed to victory with a majority of 174. The landslide win put an end to 14 years of Conservative rule and what had become a carousel of leaders.

His government promised ‘real change for working people' and the agricultural industry, after hearing Sir Keir speak at the NFU Conference in 2023, remained open minded as to what this change could be.

Sadly within months of his election, it became clear farming was not one of his priorities and after the disastrous Budget in November 2024, many felt his Government's objective was to actively destroy the industry.

Subsequent policy shifts and trade deals, have moved in some ways in support of farming but as Sir Keir exits what does his successor, widely touted to be new Makerfield MP Andy Burnham, mean for the sector?
