Massey Ferguson鈥檚 new 5S Dyna-VT brings full CVT capability to the brand鈥檚 popular livestock and specialist tractor range for the first time
Having offered CVT through its Dyna-VT transmission in its higher-powered ranges for several years, Massey Ferguson has now introduced the gearbox option into its sloped-nose, livestock-farmer-favourite 5S for the first time.
Providing power outputs from 105hp to 145hp across five models, the complete 5S range will be offered with Dyna-VT in addition to the existing Dyna-4 and Dyna-6 powershift gearboxes.
New transmission
The new transmission provides a single range with adjustable virtual ranges from 0-40km/h and is available with either pedal or joystick control. MF says the maximum road speed of 40km/h can be reached with the engine running at just 1,550rpm, potentially reducing fuel consumption.
Two virtual speed ranges can be saved and selected using a switch on the transmission joystick. Different start-off speeds for forward and reverse can be set, along with two cruise-control speeds in each direction.

The Dyna-VT option includes Parklock as standard. This automatically applies the parking brake through the shuttle lever and is particularly advantageous for tractors working in frequent stop-start operations.
Users of Massey's larger Dyna-VT tractors should see little difference in functionality when operating a CVT-equipped 5S.
All five models come as standard with a 6,000kg rear linkage lift capacity. A load-sensing 110 litres/min hydraulic system supports loader operation and higher-flow implements.听For running high-volume external implements, such as vegetable harvesters or single-cylinder trailers, 41 litres of removable oil is available.
Joystick
As on other MF 5S-series models, a micro-joystick on the Multipad controls the first and second spool valves. The third and fourth valves are mechanically controlled on Efficient models, or operated via finger-tip electronic switches on Exclusive variants.
MF 5S Dyna-VT models retain the same service intervals as current Dyna-4 and Dyna-6 versions, with 600-hour engine and 2,400-hour transmission oil-change intervals.

The new transmission option will be offered only on mid-range Efficient and top-spec Exclusive models. Buyers of base Essential-spec tractors will retain the existing powershift gearbox choices.
The MF 5S Dyna-VT will be shown for the first time in the UK at LAMMA, with the first customer machines due for delivery in June 2026.
