Suffolks sell to 20,000gns at national sale

The national show and sale of pedigree Suffolks at Shrewsbury topped at 20,000gns for a 10,000gns Conchar Cruiser sired ram lamb from Jed Sharp’s Tenbury Wells based Sharps flock

The sale topper, out of a Sportsmans Striker sired Sharp's dam, was bought by Myfyr Evans, Rhaeadr.

Making 10,000gns from Stephen Bolland's Wharfe flock, Bolton Abbey, Skipton, was a son of Kings Superiorout of a Bridgeview Maximus sired Wharfe dam which sold to Stephen Cobbald for his Lavenham flock, Sudbury, Suffolk.

Further same-way-bred ram lambs as the sale leader in the Sharp pen reached 9,000gns twice. The first was bought by Claire Kenyon, Ormskirk, with the other at this price knocked down to Robert Jenkinson Dunfell, Penrith.

Two Jalex X Factor-sired ram lambs from Derbyshire breeder S. J. Buckley's Sitlow flock sold for 8,500gns and 8,000gns apiece.

The first, out of a Sitlow Clean Bandit sired dam, sold to W. and C. Ingram's Logie Durno flock, Inverurie , with A.E. Weaver of the Perrinpit flock, Gloucestershire, paying 8,000gns for the other out of Sportsmans Black Label sired dam.

The show champion, a ram lamb from Aberdeenshire-based Melvin Stuart's Birness pen made 6,000gns. The Rhaeadr Rockstar son, out of a Ballynacannon Noah-sired dam, sold to A.J. and A.R. Benzie, Whiterashes, Turriff.Ìý

The top priced shearling ram at 1,700gns was from Anthony Glaves' Brompton flock, Scarborough. This Tombridge Take a Chance son sold to C.J. Roots, Dumfries and GallowayÌý

Top priced female at 1,600gns was the pre-sale show's reserve female champion, a ewe lamb from Tom and Aimee Mogford's Mogford flock, Nomansland, Devon. This one by Carony Cha-Ching sold to Jake Lonsdale, Rookhope.Ìý

Averages: 109 ram lambs, £2,020.14; 3 shearling rams, £1,172.50; 9 ewe lambs, £1,015; 8 shearling ewes, £761.50.
