Plum is the pick of the Devons at Sedgemoor

A bull continued its prize-winning form to claim the pre-sale championship at the Devon Cattle Breeders Society spring show and sale at Sedgemoor, as well as the top price of 9,000gns

Knowstone Plum, 9,000gns

Knowstone Plum, from father and son team, John and Richard Stanbury, South Molton, was breed champion at Mid Devon and reserve at North Devon shows last year. The two-year-old by Ebbesbourne Saxon and out of a home-bred Barton Elite daughter, was knocked down to Pamela Idelson-Smith of the Trebarfoote herd, Bude.

Coombe Skylark, 7,800gns

Two bulls shared a 7,800gns price tag. The first was Coome Skylark, an Eastyard Larkspur son from Stever Cleverdon, Okehampton. Out of a home-bred Larkspur daughter, it sold to the team at Daylesford Organic, Moreton-in-Marsh.

Champson Titan, 7,800gns

Matching that, when sold to Bowldon Farms, Tetbury, was Champson Titan from Messrs Dart and Sons, South Molton. This Colleton Thorven son is out of a Gratwicke Sam-sired cow.

Pusey Farms Oak, 5,200gns

From R. Perlhagen, Faringdon, the reserve champion, Pusey Farms Oak, sold to J.P. Williams, Redruth, for 5,200gns. Its pedigree includes Peaspod Universal Dollare on to a home-bred daughter of Pusey Farms Oxo.

Also at 5,200gns was another Universal Dollare son, Pusey Farms Ash, which sold to Kingham Farms, Marlborough. It is from the home-bred Lillybet family.

Daylesford Organics bought several of the top-priced females, including the leading entry at 3,300gns in the shape of an unhaltered heifer named Trebartfoote Beauty 19, from Pamela Idelson-Smith. Sired by Northmoor's Romeo, Beauty is out of a home-bred Kew Squire daughter.

At 3,000gns when sold to Daylesford Organics was Kingsbury Barbie Girl, a Cutcombe Trumpit daughter from Lisa Parsons, Norton-Sub-Hamdon.

Also selling to Daylesford Organics was Trebartfoote Beauty 18 at 2,800gns, this time out of Goldings Governor. At 2,700gns was the female champion, Rocknell Gabrielle ,from Graham Summerhayes, Tiverton.

AveragesÌý– 10 bulls, £5,565; 25 two-year-old heifers, £2,310; 3 yearling heifers, £2,170.
