Jeremy Clarkson has said that food prices need to go up in a recent interview with The News Agent podcast.
During the interview Mr Clarkson was asked whether he thinks there is a future for farming in Britain, in which he said: There has to be. Otherwise, people will be very thin.
People simply do not pay enough for their food. The one thing a government will never say is that you have got to pay more for your food.
Mr Clarkson went on to tell presenters Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel that the reason the countryside looks so beautiful is down to the work that farmers do.
He said: If I did not do anything here, it would just be a gigantic thousand acre bramble bush.
When questioned about the narrative that farmers have about the industry, Jon Sopel said: I think all my life I have heard farmers saying it is never been so tough.
Mr Clarkson agreed that he has heard that narrative, but that it was only when he experienced farming issues for himself that he truly understood how appalling it is.
